This is the first time that I really felt sad about a calamity that hit our city. I love how our house is always unaffected when such calamities hit the city. I felt neutral about floods that happened around 2 years ago. My house was almost affected but didn’t and my relatives were fine, so I didn’t really care much.
But this time it was different.
Today was the schedule for our NSTP Christmas Party and also my sister’s birthday. Despite the storm and despite having no water at home (we still don’t have water), I still went to school because I was thinking about the perfect attendance (so that I could get an A) and also the kids of our area work and the preparations we made. I mean, a few of my classmates took time from the busy schedules to prepare the food, you know.
So, as I was riding the jeepney, I passed by the Kauswagan National Highway bridge. The current was fast and the houses under the bridge were destroyed and I hear people talking about dead people. I mean, I’ve seen the aftermath with my own eyes, unlike before where I was just at home viewing pictures. I don’t know why but I didn’t see the dead people, but I could imagine after seeing the areas affected.
The Christmas party was of course canceled and instead, we donated the prepared food and gifts for the party to the Sendong victims through Xavier University’s Operation Tabang, which I documented since I brought my camera (pictures are posted here). It’s nice to know that I have helped even in little ways.
Please, keep on praying and keep on helping.
